On top of everything she had to do when he died, like planning the funeral, there was also the stress of finances and paperwork. “We had a joint checking account, but it didn’t have a lot of money. Our other bank account had more money, but was only in his name. I had to get that sorted out, which took ages.”The most helpful advice my mom got when my dad died? We talked to three end-of-life experts who unpacked how to make this extensive undertaking slightly more manageable.

Just What the (Urgent Care) Doctor Ordered

Urgent care centers are on every corner: “You’re never more than three minutes away from pizza, a deli or a doctor willing to help.”Julia Rothman andNov. 17, 2023If you live in the United States, you’ve most likely experienced the glacial pace of getting medical treatment. It can take weeks to see a primary care doctor, and an emergency room visit can set you back many hours. Doctors are treating more patients than they did previously, says Dr. Ari Friedman, assistant professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. With primary care doctors overburdened, navigating the current health care system can feel overwhelming for patients. That’s one reason urgent care centers are on the rise.

PARIS, Nov 15 (Reuters) - The cast of Ridley Scott's biopic "Napoleon" flocked to Paris for the film's global premiere on Tuesday night, taking to the red carpet just days after strikes ended in Hollywood. Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of Napoleon, a historical figure both revered and criticised in France, who is portrayed in the film as a ruthless military tactician with a softer, vulnerable side, uncovered by his wife the empress Josephine de Beauharnais, played by Vanessa Kirby. "I feel very fortunate the strike ended in time," Rothman told Reuters. Kirby said she learned about the challenge of being "the feminine in that extremely masculine world," and appreciated Beauharnais for "remaining dignified," even through her public divorce. Chinese companies, meanwhile, have accelerated in global patent holdings in the cybersecurity sector, according to a recent Nikkei report. More reassurance to Chinese investors To be sure, while these stocks continue to rally, investors in the U.S. largely remain cautious about making any trades based on expectations ahead of the Biden-Xi talks. If anything, Chinese investors could leave Wednesday with more reassurance—which China's economy desperately needs as it struggles to make a post-pandemic recovery. Chinese investors "remain concerned that the deterioration in the bilateral political relationship could have a negative impact on the Chinese economy," Matthews investment strategist Andy Rothman said. Shaun Rein of China Market Research Group told CNBC last week that the meeting "might lower down the temperature," but that he does not expect "anything meaningful" to come from it.

A risk premium should be present somewhere in oil prices, Papic wrote. "If the Hamas attack leads to a regional conflict in the world's most important oil producing geography, then oil prices should catch a bid… any bid. Beijing's crude oil imports rose in October, but the country's overall exports fell more than expected, indicating the global economy may be slowing. The biggest risk for oil prices is a decline in Iranian oil exports by 300,000 to 500,000 barrels per day, the bank cautioned. The U.S. House of Representatives last week passed a bill to harden sanctions on Tehran's crude exports in an overwhelming bipartisan vote following the Hamas' attacks.

Some things felt slightly off, but I wrote back. The response was surprising: The person knew some things about hiring an illustrator, using industry terminology and making other requests typical of art directors. At this point, I was almost certain it was a scam. And then the most glaring red flag: The person wanted to pay me immediately. As a freelancer, I almost always collect payment once a project is completed.

Julia Rothman andJuly 19, 2023ImageThere’s good news for recent college graduates: The labor market is strong, unemployment is low and, according to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, businesses are expecting to hire almost 4 percent more graduates from the class of 2023 than they did from the previous class. The bad news? For most of them, all four years of college were tainted by a global pandemic, and now they have to transition from student life to the world of work. Which is never easy. We interviewed 17 graduates from different majors and parts of the country about how they’re feeling as they enter the work force.
